About the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare

The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare is a Ministry of the Government of India and the apex body for the formulation and administration of the rules, regulations, and laws related to agriculture in India. The Ministry is headed by Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar. The Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (DA&FW) within this ministry works toward farmers' welfare and the holistic growth of the Indian agricultural sector. The vision of DA&FW is to enhance the productivity and production of agricultural commodities to ensure the food security of the nation and to make agriculture a sustainable and viable vocation. DA&FW implements various schemes targeted towards farmers and agriculture development in India, i.e. Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) – an income support scheme for farmers, Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY), Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana – for crop insurance, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) – for micro-irrigation, etc.

About National Farmers Welfare Program Implementation Society (NFWPIS)

The National Farmers Welfare Program Implementation Society (NFWPIS) was created under the Digital Agriculture Division of the DA&FW. The society was formulated by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, to manage farmer welfare schemes, of which PM-KISAN is one of the flagship programs. The society is headed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and is responsible for the overall design and implementation of farmer welfare schemes and Agri Stack.
